About the Project
Nepean Hospital Redevelopment will deliver contemporary and expanded hospital services and integrated community health facilities for the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The project is being completed in multiple stages with a committed $550 million to deliver the first stage and $450 million to complete the second. This building totals 14 stories and includes an expanded Emergency Department, 18 birthing suites, a new neonatal intensive care unit, more than 16 operating theatres and more than 200 additional beds in contemporary and bright in-patients’ units.

Reillys were engaged by MMX Projects to supply and install all privacy tracking and roller blinds throughout the new 14-storey building. As we wrap up onsite, we are pleased to say we have successfully installed over 3 kilometres of privacy track that was locally sourced and supplied as well as custom bent onsite to the exact layout requirements. We were also contracted to supply and install over 600 single and dual manual roller blinds all fitted into custom made pelmets. We were able to complete 12 stories of installation within 3 months.

The Reillys Difference
During the early stages of this project our Business Development Manager, Duncan Reilly, worked with procurement for Miramax, who was managing the FFE fit-out. They worked collaboratively to design the specification that had the end-user at the forefront of decision making.

Duncan, a carpenter by trade, was instrumental in proposing and implementing the use of a push click release system that ensures tracks can be easily maintained and serviced, prolonging the life of the product. In addition to track specification, Reillys was able to source, supply and locally manufactured green star rated fabric for all roller blinds, this was an important aspect of the design phase to both our client and theirs, the NSW Government. It was also proposed and accepted that we install all roller blinds into sleek white fascia’s, hiding the mechanics of the blind allowing for a nicer presentation for the end-user.

After the specifications were resolved, Reilly’s worked with the principal contractor CPB Constructions, in conjunction with MMX Projects, to coordinate the use of the site crane to lift the track lengths to each level up to the 14-storey building. This is a time critical step, as it must be completed early in the project prior to the crane being dismantled, which can be some months ahead of our commencement date onsite. While logically challenging, this is an important element to enable the smooth execution of track installation, removing the labour-intensive job of carrying long lengths of the track up and down multiple levels of stairs.

To ensure consistent daily progress was achieved to meet project deadlines and stay on schedule, Reilly’s dedicated one of our senior installers to be onsite for the entire duration of the 3-month planned install timeframe. We like to take a really hands approach with these high-volume projects, which saw our Business Development Manager and Project Manager make regular visits to the site to verify track installation compliance and defect control. Over the course of the installation, Reilly’s resolved track configuration and any practicality issues onsite. Duncan, our Snr Installer, James along with Technical Manager, Callum were in regular consultation with CPB Constructions and Miramax and were able to troubleshoot in the moment, and propose a practical solution at the time the issue was raised. With the resources and ability to custom bend onsite, this allows for constant revisions of plans to be executed in a timely manner if and when these configuration issues arise.

As we near completion of the first stage our team is busy preparing paperwork and finalising floor plan details for stage 2.
